I'm new to whitewater kayaking. I have had a bit of experience with flat water, but am ready to get my own setup and really want to pursue whitewater.
I am currently getting my first setup, I have found I can get pool time in the Iowa city area for a decent price. Would anyone be willing to come teach me rolling, and some of the essentials. I would be willing to pay for the pool time, and may be able to throw some money your way for teaching.
Try Iowa Whitewater Coalition. They have some clinics coming up. You can look it up on there web site. I have taken a couple myself and the training will be extremely good with a certified instructor for a very fare price. IWC works with the ISU Kayak Club.
Thanks for the advice. I will check it out, last I saw they were only showing events up until April of this year, it looked like it hasn't been updated recently.
Thanks! If my work schedule works out I am at least going to try to make it to the first one. I just got Max's email from Al to see about him teaching.
The rolling series classes are coming up in Iowa city the end of January and February. They are on Tuesday nights. The 3 classes are pretty cheap and the instructors are very good! There are also two open pool nights to practice or get advice/help. I'll be going to all the open pools and the classes there, let me know if your interested. Also, Al's pool sessions are always great, he knows a lot of river stuff and can point you in the best direction too. BTW. What kind of boat did you get? And where are you located?
I'm in Iowa city. I got a really good deal on a barely used project x 56. Dave told me about the rolling series at Iowa, but I haven't been able to sign up because the class isn't listed on rec serv. Do you know when the pool nights are? Are you pretty close to ic then?
Cool. I'm about 45 min north of IC. David is the man to know for kayak instruction in IC, definitely let him know you are interested. The fall rolling series was full! He is super cool and excited about ww kayaking! I still have to find out when they are for sure, but it's definitely late January and into February. Hope to see you there.
